Rochester, Mn (KROC-AM News) - Snow is expected later today across southern Minnesota and northeast Iowa.

The National Weather Service is predicting up to 3 inches of new snow could accumulate in the region starting in the late afternoon and ending early Monday. The latest forecast for Rochester calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow by midnight.

The snow is predicted to cause reduced visibility and slippery conditions on area roadways, many of which still bear the marks left by Friday's blizzard. As of noon on Christmas Day, nearly all of the major highways in southeastern Minnesota had returned to normal winter driving conditions.

Travel conditions west of I-35 are not as good. Most are rated as partially covered by snow and ice. MnDOT is still recommending against any travel in areas of south-central and southwestern Minnesota between Redwood Falls and communities just west of the Twin Cities. There are even a couple of highway closures still in effect in that same section of the state.

Forecasters are predicting a major warm-up next week. The afternoon high temperature on Tuesday could reach the mid to upper 20s, while highs in the upper 30s are forecast for the remainder of the week.
