The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fatal traffic accident shortly after 6:30 Friday evening.

Authorities indicate the fire truck was the only vehicle involved.

43-Year-Old Killed, Six-Year-Old Among Two Airlifted After Fire Engine Overturns in Cottonwood, MN

The fatality occurred in the small town of Cottonwood, which is about 18 miles northeast of Marshall.

A news release says deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash near Lakeview School and found the fire engine belonging to the Wood Lake Fire Department on its side in the west ditch.

One of the occupants, described as a 43-year-old, was found pinned by the fire engine. He has been identified as Patrick Steven Remiger of Wood Lake

Authorities say the other occupants, identified as 37-year-old Andrew Vanhecke and six-year-old Beaux Vanhecke, were initially taken to a hospital by ground ambulance before being flown to a hospital in Sioux Falls.

An update on their conditions is not available. Both are from Woodlake. 

Authorities say the fire engine was in the area to participate in the Cottonwood Homecoming Parade.
