Earlier the month, MnDOT announced the end of the 2024 road construction season in Minnesota. This past season's work involved on nearly 240 road and bridge projects.
Crews also started two multi-year projects along Interstate 90 in southeast Minnesota. One is to transform the I-90/Hwy. 52 interchange southeast of Rochester and the other is to rebuild the corridor through Austin this year.
Work on both of those projects is set to continue in 2025. One of two projects focused on a major highway through Rochester is also started to start next year.
Project to Resurface Hwy. 14 Through Rochester to Start in 2025
In 2025, crews are set to resurface two stretches of the Hwy. 14 corridor in southwestern and southeastern Rochester.
The southwestern portion of the resurfacing work runs from the Hwy. 52 interchange near Apache mall to the intersection with Crossroads Dr. Southwest.
In southeast Rochester, crews will resurface the four-lane highway from 3rd Ave. to Marion Rd.
Project to Rebuild Busy Rochester Intersection Scheduled to Start in 2027
Another project, scheduled to start in 2027, focuses on the busy Hwy. 14 and South Broadway intersection, which MnDOT says sees 50,000 vehicles daily.
Officials are still ironing out plans to improve the intersection, however MnDOT says some options considered for the project are changing the turn lanes, slowing speeds, resurfacing part of South Broadway and replacing the traffic signal.
