The traffic disruption is part of the massive, three year project to transform the Interstate 90/Highway 52 interchange southeast of Rochester.

Work on the project got underway on July 15.

Five Day Road Closure & Detour Begins Monday on Highway 52 at I-90

Starting Monday Hwy. 52 at I-90 will close in both directions. A Minnesota Department of Transportation news release says the closure is to allow crews to install a culvert underneath the road.

The following detour will be in place:

Northbound Highway 52: Motorists going north on Highway 52 should travel north on Olmsted County Road 7, exit to westbound I-90, and take the Highway 52 exit (Exit 218) to access northbound Highway 52 to Rochester

Southbound Highway 52: Motorists going south on Highway 52 should travel south on Highway 63 in Rochester, exit to eastbound I-90, take Exit 224 at Highway 42/CR 7 and go southbound on Olmsted CR 7 to Highway 52 near Chatfield.

The closure and detour are scheduled to last for five days weather permitting. It’s the second closure announced at the interchange since the project began.

Last month, MnDOT announced motorists will encounter off-ramp closures from I-90 to Hwy. 52 southbound through November.

I-90 traffic seeking northbound Hwy. 52 is still able to use the exit ramps.

The more than $28 million project got underway last week and will involve replacing the I-90 bridges over Highway 52 and constructing a new ramp for traffic heading south on Highway 52 seeking to enter eastbound I-90.
