Southern Minnesota Fentanyl Investigation Leads to Guilty Plea
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota man has admitted to a federal charge stemming from an investigation into the trafficking of fentanyl pills.
The US Attorney For Minnesota says 37-year-old Giorgio Javon d'Larenta Baymon has entered a guilty plea to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. His sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
According to court documents, the Minneapolis man was accused of selling 860 fentanyl pills to an individual in Mankato for distribution in that area. That incident allegedly occurred on January 8 of last year. Several weeks later, he was accused of selling another 600 fentanyl pills to another individual.
Federal prosecutors say he was apprehended after a member of the staff at the Intercontinental Hotel in St. Paul discovered a bag containing approximately 8500 fentanyl pills in Baymon's room. The criminal complaint says law enforcement officers waited at the hotel for his return, but he fled after spotting them and pulled the fire alarm, but he was eventually captured in the basement of the building.
A news release says the prosecution of Baymon was the result of an investigation conducted by the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force, the St. Paul Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the DEA.
