
Stewartville Wrestler Shot in School Parking Lot, Gunman Found Dead of Self-Inflicted Wound
Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News)- A juvenile boy is in critical condition and a man is dead following a shooting in the parking lot of the Stewartville Middle and High School Friday morning.

A news release issued by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the scene of the shooting around 5 a.m.
The shooting occurred as the Stewartville wrestling team was loading for a bus trip to an invitational event in Grand Forks, ND.

Authorities say a member of the wrestling team was walking towards the bus, which was parked in front of the building, when a gun shot was heard. Members of the wrestling program located the student athlete on the ground in the parking lot.
Team staff and students were looking around and heard a second gunshot. An adult male holding a rifle was found at the scene.
The sheriff’s office says the gunman was pronounced dead at the scene and that he appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials say the wrestler who was shot was taken by Mayo Clinic Ambulance to a hospital and was rushed into surgery. The family of the student athlete told law enforcement the juvenile is in critical but stable condition.
Authorities have not released the names of the student and gunman but did say they are in contact with both families and that the families are cooperating.
Law enforcement and school staff set up a reunification center for students and their families following the shooting. Counselors and chaplains also responded to the scene to provide assistance, the sheriff’s office says.
“Our condolences go out to everyone impacted by this incident. We also ask that everyone give those impacted time and space to process and be with their family and friends at this time,” the news release says.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting is under investigation.
The Stewartville School District canceled classes Friday morning. “Please keep our students, staff, families, and community members in your prayers,” a statement released on the district’s Facebook page Friday says.
