Back in the middle of March, many were surprised to hear and see that Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar stores, had failed to meet its fourth-quarter profit expectations and ended up losing $1.71 billion, or $7.85 per share.

That news prompted an announcement from Dollar Tree that they would be closing over 1,000 Family Dollar Stores, 600 of which should be shuttered by the end of the first half of this year, with 370 more scheduled for closure over the next few years. Dollar Tree also said they'd be closing 30 Dollar Tree stores when their leases expire.

Here in Illinois, we've got 346 Dollar Tree stores and 108 Family Dollar stores, and overall, the company has 16,774 stores, of which 8,539 are Family Dollar stores.

  • Serta Simmons Bedding

  • Neiman Marcus

Although There Still Hasn't Been A Comprehensive List Of Family Dollar/Dollar Tree Locations Scheduled For Closure, Some Information Has Leaked Out About A Couple Of Illinois Locations, And It Looks Like Peoria Will Be The Town With The First Closures

There's no doubt that somewhere in their corporate headquarters Dollar Tree has a master-list of all their planned closures, but for now, we'll rely on the excellent reporting done by The Peoria Journal Star.

PJStar.com says that at least two of the 5 Family Dollar locations there are prepping for permanent closure: "A "store closing" banner hangs outside of Family Dollar at 3116 N. Sterling Ave. in Peoria. A sign posted next to the entrance notes that "EVERYTHING MUST BE SOLD!"

Another Peoria Family Dollar location at 820 NE Jefferson St is also in the shut-down process.

There will be more to follow, and we'll keep an eye on which locations throughout the state are targeted for closing.
