Golf Cart Driver & Two Pedestrians Killed in Iowa Over The Weekend
Three people were killed in separate accidents in Iowa over the weekend.
One Person Killed in Extreme Southwestern Iowa
A 65-year-old woman from North Carolina was killed just after 8 a.m. Friday (September 29) when she was run over by a semi.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 44-year-old Jeffrey Hartley of Glenwood was driving a semi east out of a truck stop fueling area when he turned the semi south onto 211th Avenue. The pedestrian was killed when she was run over by the semi while walking west across 211th Avenue, north of Highway 2, in Fremont County.
The woman killed has been identified as Debora Turbett of Lexington, Kentucky.
Cedar Rapids Man Killed in Fairfax Crash
At approximately 9 p.m. Friday night, September 29, a large number of agencies were dispatched to a pedestrian-vehicle accident on Williams Boulevard, at the Casey's General Store, in Fairfax.
The Iowa State Patrol, Fairfax Fire Department, Area Ambulance, Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, and Linn County Sheriff's Deputies all responded to the scene.
Emergency personnel found that 49-year-old Terry Vaske of Cedar Rapids had been struck by a vehicle driven by 63-year-old Theresa Ludeking of Norway. Vaske died at the scene. The Linn County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the accident.
Golf Cart Driver Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash
One man is dead after an accident involving a golf cart and motorcycle at approximately 3:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Franklin County.
The Iowa State Patrol says Robert Irwin was driving a 2007 Columbia golf cart on 170th Street when he stopped at the intersection of Highway 65, north of Hampton. Irwin then began to cross Highway 65 from east to west when he was struck by a 2023 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling northbound.
The driver of the golf cart, 84-year-old Robert Irwin, was killed in the accident. 54-year-old Corey Spear was driving the motorcycle. He was injured and taken to Franklin General Hospital with unspecified injuries. Both men are from Hampton, Iowa.
There have been 281 people killed on Iowa roads through Sunday, October 1. That's 26 more fatalities than at this time in 2022. A total of 18 pedestrians have been killed in Iowa so far in 2023.
