There's just something comforting about nostalgia these days, right? That might be why this Minnesota grocery store-- which appears to be right out of the 90s-- is now going viral.

Ah, the Internet. Where the strangest things can sometimes take on a life of their own and be seen (and shared) by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Which is happening right now to a grocery store in southern Minnesota that appears to be stuck in time.

X (formerly Twitter) user Andrew posted some pictures last week of a grocery he encountered while he was here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. (It doesn't say for sure, but Andrew's X page says lives in Memphis, and his posts appear to be of pictures he's taken of interesting places he's visited.)

And last week he stumbled on Schultz Family Foods in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, which is located on 900 East Main Street, a little under two hours southwest of the Twin Cities. Here's what Andrew said on his X post:

Can’t stop thinking about this grocery store I saw in Minnesota last week that was straight out of 1992

The pictures on his X post below appear to show a design scheme that does harken back to the early 90s. On its website, Schultz Family Foods describes itself like this:

  • Our family-owned store offers a convenient one-stop shop where you can find everything you need from the everyday essentials to specialty items from around the world.
  • Our friendly staff is here to help you find exactly what you're looking for and to offer you assistance regarding all the products we carry.
  • We take pride in our community and appreciate your business. We know that you have many options for food purchases and want you to know that we're working hard each day to continue to earn your business.

So ARE the design elements you see in the store actually over 30 years old or do they just *seem* kind of retro?

Apparently, they *are* that old! BringMeTheNews says representatives of Schultz Family Foods confirmed their decor is from around 1992. They noted that the design is 'pretty much the same as when they bought the store in 1995.' BringMeTheNews said, though it added that the store has added new cooling and front-end systems along with self-checkouts.

Meanwhile, as long as we're walking down Minnesota's Memory Lane, keep scrolling to check out Fox-9 TV video of footage of what the Target in Edina looked like back in 1986 (well before the current UPC price scanners were installed, and cashiers had to manually enter SKU codes for each item) as well as some the most popular toys from the 90s as well!
