If you live in Illinois or Wisconsin, some of the Midwest's best weekend road trips are only a few hours away.  Let me drop the list of the must-visit places you should check out this summer for a little relaxation.

Top Summer Road Trip Destinations in Illinois & Wisconsin

One destination that is always at the top of my list: Galena.  It's one of those places that feels much farther away than it actually is.  With their Historic Main Street, unique shops, wineries, and rolling hills, it's perfect for couples, friend trips, or anyone looking for a "slower-paced" weekend.  Galena has always been highly ranked by travel experts, too!

Maybe you're craving lake views!  Lake Geneva it is.  The place I visit the most during the summer, literally.  There's a charming downtown, mail boat tours, lakeside walking paths, markets, and restaurants that make it one of the most popular weekend stops for Illinois residents.  Forget Chicago, go to Lake Geneva!

For outdoor lovers, I'd also suggest Starved Rock or Devil's Lake.  Waterfalls, canyons, hiking trails, and scenic overlooks that are incredibly breathtaking.  I watched someone get proposed to at Starved Rock and it was one of the most euphoric and beautiful moments I've ever witnessed!

If you're more into touristy stuff, Wisconsin Dells might be a good fit for you, too.  Waterparks, rollercoasters, scenic boat tours, beaches, hiking trails, and delicious food!  This is a great place for adults and kids.
