In what will go down as one of the LARGEST pot busts in Illinois history...
Cops pulled over a northbound tractor-trailer truck on Interstate 57 in Illinois, which appeared to have crates of cabbage, did it ever. It was green and leafy that's for sure. NewsGazette
Oh cabbage, that's hilarious...What are the totals on this bust:
- 4,358 pounds of Marijuana
- Street value - Between $14 and $19.7 million dollars
“This was one of the largest drug seizures in state of Illinois history, I would say it is probably in the Top 10.” - Capt. Stuart Shaver, administrator of the nine-county East Central Illinois police district
Turns out this semi was following another vehicle too closely, and was pulled over. The driver was coming from Texas to Chicago.
“As the officer was talking with the individuals involved, the officers became suspicious that these individuals may not know as much about the trucking industry as a typical truck driver would, the occupants provided inconsistent information and had log book violations.” - Capt. Stuart Shaver
The dogs were called in, the back doors swung open and jackpot...CABBAGE! With, 270 shrink-wrapped bales of marijuana in the cabbage.
Police arrested the driver, Jesus Guzman, and two passengers, Eric Cabrera, and Joshua Cornillez. All California guys...Here are the charges:
- Possession
- Manufacture and delivery of cannabis
- Cannabis trafficking
- Calculated criminal cannabis conspiracy
I don't know what that last one is, but dude that doesn't sound good.
“One of the main goals of the Illinois State Police is to make our community safer, and I think our troopers did just that in taking so much cannabis off the streets, we’re doing a better job of recognizing that our interstates are being used for illegal activity, and it is our job to make sure that our communities are safe.” - Capt. Stuart Shaver
