According to a press release, yard waste collection will conclude during the week of Monday, December 2 until the compost site reopens in spring 2025, with the exact reopening date to be announced.
Rockford Illinois Yard Waste Disposal Requirements
For efficient pickup, all yard waste must be placed in compostable paper bags or refuse cans no larger than 32 gallons, marked with a visible “X” from the street.
Branches and twigs too large for bags should be bundled at a maximum of 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter, and bundles must be tied with string or twine—not wire or tape.
Branches thicker than 4 inches in diameter, tree stumps, root balls, dirt, and mulch are not eligible for collection. Additionally, each bag, can, or bundle must not exceed 50 pounds when loaded.
Alternatives for Yard Waste Disposal
Residents who miss the final collection week can take their yard waste to the Winnebago Landfill’s Rock River Compost Facility. This site accepts various types of landscape waste, providing a convenient alternative until regular city collection resumes.
Rockford residents are reminded not to mix yard waste with regular garbage or place it in plastic bags, as these will not be collected.
