Back in March, I wrote about Ridglan Farms in Wisconsin that stuck with me longer than most, because it wasn’t just another headline, it was about dogs, and if you’re anything like me, that hits a little deeper.

Dogs Rescued From Wisconsin Breeding Farm

In case you haven't been following what has been happening lately at Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, let me catch you up.

Ridglan Farms is a facility that breeds beagles for biomedical research. The facility is classified as a USDA Class A dog breeder and a USDA licensed Class R research facility, so what they do there is completely legal... but it is disgusting.

By disgusting I mean over 2,000 beagles locked in crowded cages who only know life as constant pain and testing. No sun, no grass, no walks around the block...Just medical experiments.

On March 15, 2026, over 50 animal rights activists broke into Ridglan Farms to rescue 23 beagles from the facility, but what about the thousands they left behind?

Since March 15, I have been following the developments regarding Ridglan Farms, and this morning I saw the update the entire nation has been waiting weeks for.

1,500 Beagles To Be Rescued From Ridglan Farms

On Thursday, April 30, The Center for a Humane Economy and Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced an agreement with Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, to acquire 1,500 beagles from the facility.

Shannon Keith, founder and president of the Beagle Freedom Project, told WISN in Milwaukee:

This is exactly the kind of moment we have been working toward for years. We have built the infrastructure to not only rescue these dogs, but to give them full lives beyond the laboratory system. Every one of these dogs will be treated as an individual deserving of care, healing, and a home."

That is music to my ears, but the reality is, these pups have a long way to go before they can be adopted.

The movement of dogs from Ridglan Farms will begin soon, and the dogs will be moved to shelters throughout Wisconsin and beyond for care, behavior evaluations, and socialization.

The Wisconsin Humane Society will be picking up 150 of the beagles on May 11, and applications are already being accepted for when the dogs are ready to be adopted.

Get more information on adoption, or donate money to help care for the rescued beagles at wihumane.org.
