Minnesota Continues Strong Support For Its Women Residents
Although women account for almost 51% of the United States' population, they make up more that 2/3rds of the nation's minimum wage workers, according to the NWLC.
WalletHub set out to find which of the United States are best for women's well-being with its most recent study.
Last year, I reported that Minnesota was ranked second in the country when it came to the well-being of its female residents. This year's study finds Minnesota falling a couple of spots to fourth, which is still a good showing.
“Despite improvements the U.S. has made over the years, women still lag behind men when it comes to economic prospects, executive positions and political representation," said WalletHub's Milvionne Chery Copeland. "On top of tackling these important issues, the best states for women also ensure that they have access to high-quality health care, receive the same educational opportunities as men, and live in safe communities.”
WHAT MAKES MINNESOTA A GREAT STATE FOR WOMEN?
Minnesota finished in the top ten of both categories used to determine its rank. In the first category of "Women's Economic and Social Well-Being,' Minnesota finished fourth. In the 2025 study, Minnesota had finished #1 in that category.
Women in Minnesota have the third-lowest percentage of those in poverty in the country.
In the category of "Women's Health Care and Safety," Minnesota finished sixth overall, which is actually up a tick from last year's seventh place finish.
WHAT IS THE BEST STATE IN THE COUNTRY FOR WOMEN?
WalletHub says the best state for women overall is Massachusetts, which finished in the top spot for "Women's Health Care and Safety," while Maine finished third overall and first in the category of "Women's Economic and Social Well-Being."
The worst state for women, per WalletHub, is Louisiana.
