John Marshall and Lourdes Boys Soccer Teams Advance to State Tournament
The Rochester area will be well represented at this year's boy's state soccer tournaments, after both Rochester John Marshall and Rochester Lourdes high schools won their section title games last night to advance to state.
John Marshall, who had earned the #1 seed in Section 1AA, defeated Owatonna 2-0 to advance to the state tournament for the first time since 1986. The win pushed JM's season record to 13-3-2.
Lourdes, the #1 seed in Section 1A, also recorded a 2-0 win in their section final, defeating Austin. Lourdes, a perennial soccer powerhouse, will be looking to capture a fourth-ever state title, and their second in three years, having last been state champions in 2012. The win took their record to 15-5-0.
On the girl's side, Dover-Eyota won the Section 1A title - it's first Section title in the program's history - to advance to the girl's Class A state tournament for the first time. They overcame 2012 Section winners Kasson-Mantorville to claim their place in this year's state tournament.
