Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The most prominent landmark in downtown Rochester’s skyline will be bathed in red, white, and blue light tonight as part of the Mayo Clinic’s recognition and celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

A news release says the patriotic lighting theme will illuminate the tower at the top of the Plummer Building to honor the life and legacy of the slain civil rights leader. The Mayo Clinic will use red, white, and blue lighting at its facilities in Albert Lea, Austin, Faribault, Owatonna, and La Crosse along with its campuses in Florida and Arizona to commemorate the national holiday.

In announcing the plans for the special lighting, the Mayo Clinic included the following statement: “The teachings of Dr. King center on justice, equality, courage and determination, as well as the fearlessness to stand in opposition of prejudice, oppression and violence. Dr. King's vision remains an enduring source of inspiration. Mayo Clinic is committed to advancing racial equity, inclusion and diversity.”
