Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota's largest private employer will undergo a leadership change this fall.

A Mayo Clinic news release says the organization's chief administrative officer has announced his plans to retire at the end of November. Jeff Bolton joined the Mayo Clinic in 2002 as chief financial officer and was appointed to the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees in 2011 before taking over the chief administrative officer position in 2013.

"I am truly grateful to Jeff for his dedication and service during his 19 years in leadership roles at Mayo Clinic," says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., Mayo Clinic's president and CEO. "I have appreciated his partnership and counsel, strong commitment to our mission and patients, excellent strategic insight and strong working relationships with people across Mayo Clinic. I've particularly valued his contributions to our COVID-19 pandemic response, his leadership to promote equity at Mayo Clinic, and his partnership to Cure, Connect and Transform health care for the benefit of our patients. He is a wonderful colleague and friend."

The Mayo Clinic news release says Bolton's tenure as chief administrative officer includes his key role in creating the Destination Medical Center initiative and Rochester and six consecutive years during which Mayo has been named the number one hospitalization by US News and World Report. He is also credited with establishing the Center for Digital Health and Mayo Clinic platform as part of Mayo's "Bold Forward" strategic plan.

"It has been the honor of my career to serve our patients alongside the best staff in health care," says Jeff Bolton. "As I look back at the past 19 years, it is the people I've worked with and what we've achieved together for patients that stand out the most. I am confident in Mayo Clinic's future because of our staff, culture, mission and enduring primary value to put the needs of the patient first."

The news release says a search for his successor is underway. It is expected that Mayo will name the new chief administrative officer this fall.
