Memorable Med City Kids’ Marathon
Over a thousand kids took part in this year’s Med City Kids’ Marathon. I was honored to be an emcee for the event again this year. The 8th graders kicked off the event, followed by the 7th graders and then each grade all the way down to kindergartners. Minnesota Viking (and Rochester native) Marcus Sherels was among those handing out medals to each participant as they crossed the finish line.
The Diaper Dash and Toddler Trot followed the Med City Kids’ Marathon. It was a blast watching infants crawl and “race” across foam mats. Then it was the toddlers and preschoolers turn to race. The smiles on their faces as the crowd cheered them on were priceless.
Later many area mascots, including Slider from the Honkers, Snowflake from the Polar Bear Plunge, Chester from Cheetos, mascots from Lourdes, Mayo, Byron and others all participated in the Mascot races. That was followed up with an impromptu “dance party” with the kids and mascots.
I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off a memorable Memorial weekend than watching and being a part of the Med City Kids’ Marathon.
