Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  A makeshift memorial has been put up at a busy northwest Rochester intersection in honor of a local bicyclist who was fatally injured at the site a few weeks ago.

The memorial - consisting of an all-white bicycle and a small poster that includes the victim’s photograph and information about the accident - showed up this past week.

Police say 72-year-old Margaret Miland was riding a bicycle around 6:15 a.m. August 30th near Lourdes High School when she was hit. Police say Miland was riding south on the path located at the northwest corner of the Valleyhigh Drive/19th St NW intersection and was struck by a vehicle when she entered the roadway.

She suffered a serious head injury after striking the vehicle’s windshield and some bone fractures but was still conscious when an officer arrived. She died two days later. The vehicle that hit her was driven by 24-year-old Fathi Geyre of Rochester, who was northbound and turning west onto 19th St from Valleyhigh Dr.

Here is a portion of Miland’s obituary:

Bicycling and traveling around the world were her passions since retiring from Mayo Clinic as a Registered Nurse.  She was loved by all who knew her, and spent her spare time with her children Richard and Ann who lived blocks away.  Spending the winters in Harlingen, Texas, she rode bike all winter long and traveled with her friends.  She enjoyed riding bicycle with Team Krebs Cyclers-National MS Society.
