So what about the huge increases that were making news in the aftermath of the recent bitterly cold weather in Minnesota and the weather mess in Texas?

They’re apparently coming - later this year.

KROC AM News made an inquiry about the situation to Minnesota Energy and here is the reply:

“Our natural gas purchase and planning strategy allowed us to mitigate some of the bill impacts to the customers. However, like most other Minnesota utilities, due to the nationwide spike in natural gas prices and the bitter cold weather this year, we expect many customers will see a bill impact. We are still finalizing the cost impact for individual customers from the increased natural gas prices.

However, we expect the cost impact for the Minnesota Energy Resources customers from those increased natural gas prices will be in line with what the customers of other Minnesota utilities will experience. Any increase will not take effect until September at the earliest and will be spread over twelve months.

Minnesota's Public Utilities Commission may take action to spread these costs over a longer amount of time."
