St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The human toll of the COVID pandemic continues to mount in Minnesota.

The State Health Department today reported a new record for coronavirus related deaths in a single day and hospitalizations. 67 deaths were reported today throughout Minnesota and the number of Minnesotans hospitalized due to COVID-19 rose above 1700 for the first time. Over 350 of those patients are being treated in intensive care units.

Just over 5100 new COVID-19 infections were reported statewide today. That includes 106 new cases in Olmsted County where the number of known active cases now exceeds 900. On Tuesday, Olmsted County Public Health Director Graham Briggs told the Olmsted County Board the recent surge in COVID activity locally could result in the county experiencing an average of one coronavirus-related death each day within the next several weeks.
