See the List of Minnesota and Iowa Sears Hometown Stores Set to Close
The Menominee, Wisconsin Sears Hometown Store website is one of those national sites that let the local store plugin some info. Or not, the all caps seem to be a tipoff of sorts.

The bad thing about that is the locally owned store only gets a little bit of space. The good thing, at least for the Menominee store...is that they're still in business.
That's not the case for these Sears Home Store Locations.
According to numbers put together by KARE11, 90 Sears Hometown Store locations in the U.S> and one store in Peurto Rico are closing (or, may have already closed). KARE11 checked out all the Sears Hometown Stores in the nation to find the 91 expected to or that have already closed.
Here's the list for our part of the country. There are many other states listed in KARE11's story.
- In Minnesota: Cambridge, Litchfield, and Marshall
- In Wisconsin: Burlington, River Falls, Tomah, Waupaca (may already be closed), and Wisconsin Rapids.
- In Iowa: Clarinda, Keokuk, Marshalltown, and Spencer, which may already be closed.
- In Illinois: Champaign, Litchfield, Robinson, and Waterloo.
There's no specific word from Sears, or their parent company, Transformco, on exact closing dates, a list of stores closing, or information on WHY they're shuttering the stores.
Wasn't There Some Sort of Sears Closing Scandal A Few Years Ago?
Yes. This is from an article on Eddie Lampert, the former CEO and chairman of Sears Holdings
In January 2019, a group of Sears' creditors hoping to persuade a federal judge to force Sears to liquidate alleged that Lampert had orchestrated a "multiyear and multifaceted scheme" to strip away the company's assets and benefit from its decline.
'In May 2019, Lampert, months after purchasing the remains of Sears from the holding company, threatened not to pay out the $43 million in pension payments owed to 90,000 former Sears and Kmart employees and retirees.(Source)
