Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -The Rochester School Board will be presented this week with an updated enrollment projection report.

The School Board continues to move toward a fall referendum on what could to be a $200 million dollar school bond issue proposal.

The report, which is updated annually for planning purposes, predicts steady growth for at least the next 5-years. Enrollment is expected to grow by about 250 students next fall, and climb to nearly 19,000 by the fall of 2023 after topping 18,000 for the first time just last fall. The forecast increase of nearly 800 students works out to a 4.2-percent rise in enrollment over the 5-year period.

The school district is currently studying how to handle the projected increase, with the existing schools already operating at over 90-percent of capacity. District voters are being surveyed this month concerning the options recommended by a committee that call for new elementary schools, a new middle school, and improvements to a number of existing school facilities.
