Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It’s been awhile but the east entrance to Rochester Recreation Center is open again.

As part of the ongoing expansion and renovation of the center, a new and much larger entrance was constructed. It formally opened to the public Friday - just in time for a weekend skating event at the center. With its opening, gone are the days of long lines of patrons waiting to get inside and then feeling crunched for space once inside.

As for the overall project, officials say it is about 70 percent complete - and that includes work on the new senior center being constructed on the west side of the building.

Since dealing with delays when the project began, workers have been making up time. It is now expected the overall project will be completed by late September or early October.
