The Rochester Park Board has rejected a plan to build a new clubhouse at the Northern Hills golf course. After a briefing yesterday, the board primarily balked at the proposal because there aren’t enough available funds to cover the estimated cost of more than $430,000. Some board members also questioned whether the proposed design is large and adequate enough to serve the city for the next 30 - 40 years.

But the board decided a new clubhouse at the course is worth reconsidering if funding can be secured.

Staff was directed to look into possible changes in the current golf division revenue model to see if that could generate more money. This could include taking over concessions and golf cart rentals and seeking more tournaments.

The issue is expected to come back to the board sometime next year.
