St Paul (KROC AM News) - The operator of a gym in Plainview has agreed to settle a lawsuit it was facing for violating Minnesota’s COVID orders last year.

The state Attorney General’s office filed the legal action against Plainview Wellness Center in November after the operator refused to close the business.

The owner continued to defy orders to close but finally relented after a judge issued a ruling in favor of the AG.

Attorney General Keith Ellison said this was the first COVID-related enforcement action his office had pursued.

The owner of the business will pay a $5,000 penalty. Ellison says if the owner of the business violates any of the terms of the consent judgment, it would be subject to a civil penalty of $25,000.

This is the fourth settlement the Attorney General’s office has reached with businesses that were facing enforcement actions for violating COVID orders.

New update: Rochester murder suspect expected to make court appearance.
