Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Preliminary results from Tuesday’s primary election for the four seats on the Rochester City Council that were on the ballot show Kathleen Harrington and Brooke Carlson have advanced to the general election.

They are seeking the at-large seat held by Randy Staver, who is not seeking a new term. 

  • Kathleen Harrington   7,342     
  • Brooke Carlson           6,053               
  • Vangie Castro              3,848      

In the 2nd ward race, incumbent Michael Wojcik and challenger Mark Bransford have advanced:

  • Michael Wojcik    1,658
  • Mark Bransford   1,462
  • Denise Welte         669

In the 4th ward race, the two top vote-getters were Kelly Rae Kirkpatrick and Katrina Pulham:

  • Kelly Rae Kirkpatrick  856
  • Katrina Pulham           395
  • PJ Calkins                   331
  • Abel Brito                   153

 There were six candidates for the 6th ward seat and the results show the winners were Molly Dennis and Craig Ugland:

  • Molly Dennis             881
  • Craig Ugland             663
  • Donavan Bailey        588
  • Todd Pisarski            250
  • Thomas M. Rigby     206
  • David Diercks           125

In the only contest for a seat on the Olmsted County Board, incumbent Jim Bier has advanced and will face Regina Mustafa in the November election:

  • Jim Bier               1,398
  • Regina Mustafa    885
  • Brian Morgan       818

The results won’t be official until they are canvassed or certified. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State:

Due to court order, absentee ballots will continue to be accepted by counties after election day, up to the day before the county's canvassing date. Counties canvassing on Thursday, August 13, 2020 are Beltrami, Benton, Brown, Clay, Cottonwood, Fillmore, Jackson, Lake, Mahnomen, Otter Tail, Pine, Traverse, and Wilkin. All other counties will canvass on Friday, August 14, 2020.  The Rochester City Council will meet as the canvassing board on Friday, Aug. 14, at 3:30 p.m.
