Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester may soon have extended dedicated bicycle lanes in the downtown.

The City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on a recommendation to award a bid to construct one-way pair bike lanes on 3rd and 4th Avenues between Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial Park and 6th Street NW and on Center Street between Mayo Park Drive and 4th Ave SW.

The low bid of just over $1.3-million was submitted by Pember Companies. The project will be paid for by DMC funds. The current schedule calls for construction to be completed by Aug 7th. The project was initially scheduled to be constructed last year.

The recommendation given to the council says “Downtown has been identified as a barrier to getting into and/or across the central part of the city due to the absence of bike facilities in the central business district.”
