St Paul (KROC AM News) - An area that essentially covers the northern two-thirds of Minnesota will be under a Red Flag Warning Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory early Thursday for 47 of the state’s 87 counties.

Aitkin, Becker, Beltrami, Benton, Big Stone, Carlton, Cass, Chippewa, Clay, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Douglas, Hubbard, Isanti, Itasca, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Kittson, Koochiching, Lac Qui Parle, Lake Of The Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, McLeod, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Pine, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, Renville, Roseau, Sherburne, St. Louis, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, Wilkin, Wright and Yellow Medicine.

The advisory will be in effect through 8:00 pm.

The Weather Service is rating the danger of fire risk as extreme due to dry conditions and expected strong winds.

The Minnesota DNR has also issued a related advisory, saying outdoor burning should be avoided and asking Minnesotans to check any burning done recently to ensure the fire is out.
