Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester’s all-time precipitation record is in jeopardy.

The current seasonal record of 43.94 inches was set in 1990. The nearly 4 inches of rain recorded at the Rochester airport this week has raised the 2019 total to 43.29 inches. That’s the third-highest on record and just a storm away from breaking the record.

The city was easily on its way to setting a new record after heavy rain fell in May and June. But it was unusually dry during the last half of July and all of August. The normal precipitation total for the October-December period is just over 5 inches.

Earlier this year, the city set an all-time snowfall record - which is now contributing to what likely will be a new precipitation record.
