Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man who nearly killed his wife with a hammer was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison.

Police officers called to the couple’s home in May 2019 found him hitting the victim over the head and he continued until they used Tasers to subdue him. His wife was taken to the hospital with multiple and life-threatening injuries.

Attempted murder and assault charges were filed against 67-year-old Joseph Kinyanjui.

His case was initially delayed after he was found incompetent to stand trial.

He was ruled competent last year and went on trial in July. The jury convicted Kinyanjui of all charges.
