Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester woman was seriously hurt Wednesday in a traffic wreck caused by a driver who was trying to beat a red light.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Behrns says 65-year-old Patricia Zummach of Rochester was driving south on North Broadway when she sped up to beat the changing light at the 48th St. intersection.

Behrns says her car was doing about 70 mph when it T-boned a vehicle that was driving east through the intersection.

That vehicle was driven by 51-year-old Sheila Franck, who had to be cut from the wreckage. A passenger - 52-year-old Eric Franck - suffered minor injuries.

Behrns says Zummach is facing citations for reckless driving, speeding and failure to obey a traffic light. She also suffered minor injuries.

The wreck happened around 12:45 PM.
