Rochester Woman Sentenced For Ramming into Mayo Civic Center
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester woman has been sentenced to five years on probation for causing significant damage to the Mayo Civic Center and assaulting a police officer.
36-year-old Jamie Copeland earlier pleaded guilty to felony charges of assaulting a peace officer, fleeing a peace officer, and damage to property. Court records show she was arrested in late April after she crashed her vehicle into an entryway to the Mayo Civic Center and then overturned some tables inside the facility before she got back into her vehicle and rammed into a Rochester police squad car multiple times before driving away.
Copeland was apprehended a short time later at a convenience store in Northwest Rochester where an officer stated that she was "flailing and screaming" when he approached her vehicle. The criminal complaint says she later told investigators that she had used methamphetamine.
The damage to the Mayo Civic Center was estimated at over $50,000 while the damage to the police vehicle was around $7000. In addition to her time on probation, Copeland has also been ordered to pay over $13,000 in restitution.
