It was final cut day on Saturday and the Minnesota Vikings released several players in order to get down to the mandatory 53-man roster by the September 5 deadline.

Among this year's final cuts was Caledonia High School standout wide receiver Isaac Fruechte. He was, however, signed to the practice squad, along with several other of the players in the final cuts. Fruechte played at Rochester Technical and Community College for one year before going on to play at the University of Minnesota for three years.

While Fruechte will practice but not suit up on game days, another area player will be on the field on Sundays. Rochester's Marcus Sherels is on the final roster again for the 2015 season, which will be his sixth with the team. Sherels was a star at Rochester's John Marshall High School and then went on to play at the University of Minnesota. Sherels has been the Vikings main punt returner the last several seasons and has the team's all-time best punt return average with 10.5 yards per return.
