There’s a Proposal for Stimulus Checks to Help with Fuel Costs

If a proposal that's before Congress is approved, you could have another set of stimulus checks headed your way. It's designed to offset rising prices for gas that are affecting everyone's pocketbook.

Multiple news sources are reporting this development including Fox 5 New York and CBS News. It's a proposal from 3 members of Congress including Lauren Underwood from the 14th District in Illinois. According to one of the member's official website, it would follow the same guidelines as the pandemic stimulus checks:

• $100 for single filers earning less than $75,000 and phased out to $80,000
• $100 for joint filers earning more less than $150,000 and phased out at $160,000

According to CBS News report, that rebate would also apply to dependents. That means if you're a married family with 2 children, you'd receive $400 per month for gas stimulus.

There are a couple of very important facts to note. #1. This is just a proposal and there's no certainty that it will move forward toward a vote at this point. #2. This monthly stimulus would continue for the remainder of 2022 as long as gas price averages remain over $4 per gallon according to the CBS report.

It's believed that this would be funded from taxes on oil companies if the proposal were to become adopted.

Too early to tell if this will have enough support and momentum to become reality, but it's certainly gotten the attention of many who are struggling to fill the tank.
