What started out as a sunny and warm night turned into a night filled with lightning in the sky, and that caused some high school football games in southeast Minnesota to be called early or suspended until Saturday morning.

Many area games were able to squeeze their games in before the storms hit.

Lanesboro Tops Grand Meadow 30-20.

Our first broadcast of the season on FUN 104 was a tough defensive battle through the third quarter, but that is when mother nature took over. Lanesboro leads Grand Meadow 14-6 with just over 7 minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter.

Saturday came around and the offenses found their rhythm. Lanesboro score twice and converted on both of their two-point conversions, while the Superlarks were able to score twice but unable to convert on a two-point conversion with about four minutes to go.

The stop enabled the Burros to hold a two-possession lead and take the victory.

LeRoy-Ostrander Tops Southland 14-12

The defending 9-man State Champions were on the road to take on the Southland Rebels in another game that was suspended due to weather. Southland held a 12-7 at the half.

Saturday, the Cardinals were able to find the endzone and the defense stood tall in the second half to get the come-from-behind win 14-12.

Chatfield Upends Rochester Lourdes in Weather Shortened Game 35-14

The defending Class AA Champion Chatfield Gophers started right where they left off the 2021 season. The Gophers trailed early but were able to put together several drives quickly to take the lead back and lead 20-7 at the half. Chatfield continued to strong play in the second half en route to the victory.

Fillmore Central Tops JWP 14-0 In Weather Shortened Game

The Fillmore Central Falcons started the season 1-0 with a 14-0 win over JWP. The Falcons scored twice in the 1st quarter as quarterback Dillion O'Connor connected with Jayce Kiehne in the end zone twice to take the early lead. The Falcons' defense was able to shut out JWP to hold on to the win in a game that was called in the 4th quarter.

PEM Takes Down Lewiston-Altura 28-8

Plainview-Elgin-Millville held a 14-0 lead at the half over Lewiston-Altura before a weather delay caused the game to be suspended. The action was resumed Saturday at 9 a.m. and the Bulldogs were able to come away with the 28-8 victory.

Lewiston-Altura is at Caledonia in Week 2 action. PEM will host Cannon Falls.

Stewartville Takes Down Mankato East 49-3

Mankato East scored first on a 40-yard field goal, but the Tigers were able to score 49 unanswered points, including a pick-6, to secure the Week 1 victory on the road. Stewartville will host Albert Lea in Week 2.

Rushford-Peterson Takes Down Medford 14-0

The Trojans and Tigers were tied up at 0 at the half, but R-P was able to score twice in the 3rd Quarter to secure the shut-out victory over Medford. The Trojans will host Fillmore Central in Week 2 action and the game will be broadcast on FUN 104.

Rochester Mayo Tops Owatonna 34-27

Mayo was able to pick off a pass and take it to the house late in the fourth quarter as the Spartans won a thriller against Owatonna Friday night. Owatonna led 27-20 at the end of the 3rd Quarter, but Mayo was able to lock things down defensively and get the win.

Mayo will host Northfield in Week 2. Owatonna travels to Rochester Century next week.

Mabel-Canton Takes Down Lyle-Pacelli 40-22

The Cougars' offense was dynamite in this one, jumping out to an early lead to get the victory. Mabel-Canton will take on LeRoy-Ostrander in week 2 while Lyle-Pacelli will battle Spring Grove

Spring Grove Tops Houston 60-30

Yes, you read that right. 60 points for the Spring Grove Lions in their opening win over Houston in what turned out to be a shootout with 90 total points scored. The Lions still take on Lyle-Pacelli in Week 2 while Houston will battle Kingsland in Houston next Saturday afternoon.

Cannon Falls Beats Goodhue 38-33

It was a tough battle in Cannon Falls as the Bombers came away with the victory over Goodhue. Cannon Falls will travel to PEM next week while Goodhue will host Triton.

St. Charles Takes Down Lake City 42-14

It was an impressive opening season win for the St. Charles Saints as they took down the Lake City Tigers in Week 1. The strong offensive showing for the Saints will look to continue as they battle Rochester Lourdes next Friday. Lake City will host Pine Island

Caledonia Shuts-out Pine Island 47-0

The Caledonia Warriors' offense started out rolling in a hurry as they took down Pine Island on the road in Week 1 of the season. The Warriors will host Lewiston-Altura in Week 2 Friday night while the Pine Island Panthers will travel to Lake City to battle the Tigers.

Byron Tops Kasson-Mantorville 28-17

After a short weather delay, the Byron Bears were able to hold off the Kasson-Mantorville KoMets in Week 1. The Bears will be at Faribault in Week 2, while Kasson-Mantorville will host Winona on Thursday night.

Mankato West Tops Rochester John Marshall 23-0

In a game that was shortened due to weather, the defending Class AAAAA state champions took down the Rockets of John Marshall 23-0. The Scarlets will host New Prague in Week 2 while JM takes on Austin.

Northfield Takes Down Austin 35-7

A strong showing on the offensive side of the ball for Northfield as they took down Austin in Week 1. The Raiders will play at Rochester Mayo in Week 2 while Austin battles Rochester John Marshall.

New Prague Edges Rochester Century 23-21

New Prague was able to win a close battle with Rochester Century Friday night. The Panthers will host Owatonna in Week 2 while New Prague will travel to Mankato West.
