Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Security will get tighter at Rochester’s central government campus next week.

Olmsted County announced Wednesday the Government Center Rotunda doors will only be unlocked for meetings after 5 p.m. when public meetings are scheduled or expected to occur after business hours.

The change begins Monday.

The county says the Rotunda doors will be open 15 minutes prior to a scheduled meeting and locked 15 minutes after the meeting’s scheduled start time (for example, if a meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m., the doors will open at 5:45 p.m. and lock at 6:15 p.m.).

The only exceptions are City Council, Truth in Taxation, and Board of Appeals meetings.

Olmsted County is making this change to provide added security for the wings of the building that house city and county offices and services that close at 5:00 PM. All skyway doors will continue to remain locked outside of normal business hours.

  • Lake Zumbro Joint Powers Board
  • Olmsted County Human Rights Commission
  • Olmsted County Justice Council
  • Planning Advisory Commission
  • Rochester-Olmsted County Youth Commission

For the City of Rochester, outside of City Council meetings, this will affect all other meetings happening in Chambers after business hours.
