This year's hunting season has turned tragic for an Illinois man.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that 66-year-old Russel P Ory of Aurora, Illinois was found below a tree stand following an apparent fall Sunday in Jo Daviess County.

According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Orp was found on a property in the 8300 block of South Massbach Road, rural Elizabeth.

 A press release states that the sheriff’s department had received a report of a missing hunter at about 7:15 p.m. Responding deputies learned that Ory had not been heard from since about 4 p.m. Sunday.  A Jo Daviess County K-9 unit led authorities to the tree stand.

The release states:

“Ory was discovered below his tree stand from an apparent fall and a short time later became unresponsive,”.  “Deputies immediately began to provide medical care for Ory".

The release also stated:

"First responders from Elizabeth arrived on the scene. Ory “was eventually pronounced deceased on (the) scene from his injuries,”..

The incident remains under investigation.
