Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - What happened to the heat?

Forecasters had called for a very warm and muggy day in the Rochester area Wednesday but temperatures peaked at 84 degrees at the airport, not the mid 90’s that had been expected. It was actually warmer Tuesday when the city’s official high was 88 degrees.

Forecasters also called for heat index readings in the triple digits on Wednesday but they only rose to about 90 degrees - also several degrees lower than what was recorded on Tuesday.

It remained warm Wednesday night as temperatures hovered around 80 degrees until around 2:00 am Thursday when winds shifted to the northwest.

Hazy and smoky conditions may be noticed over the next several days as northerly winds will bring in more smoke from Canadian wildfires.
