A proposed major development project in downtown Rochester that has been in the planning stages for several years is scheduled to take a major step forward next week. That’s when the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to hear from Titan Development, which is owned by the Chafoulias family. The firm is proposing a 24 story mixed use building that would include a hotel, apartments as well as office and retail space. A new city-owned public parking ramp with at least 450 spaces would also be part of the project, which would be constructed along the south side of East Center Street, the east side of South Broadway and north of the Broadway Residence and Suites building. It also calls for a skyway connection over Broadway that would tie in with the Center Street parking ramp or the University Square building.

The commission is scheduled to review the proposal at its meeting next Wednesday due to some zoning issues. If approved, it would go to the City Council for its consideration April 21st. The plan would likely involve public financing. The Chafoulias family has been planning to develop that site for years and wants to begin work on this project this year.
