A young child was injured Friday morning while riding on a tractor with his grandfather in rural Rochester.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department says the 2 ½ year old boy fell off and became pinned beneath a rear wheel on the smaller tractor.

He was alert and crying after emergency responders freed him.  Officials say the boy was then transported to St. Mary’s Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening leg and chest injuries.

The incident was reported around 10:30 a.m. at a residence just west of Rochester in the 300 block of 60th avenue southwest.
