MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – Gopher Hockey senior forward Travis Boyd has been tabbed as the Big Ten First Star of the Week and NCAA Third Star of the Week after leading Minnesota to a weekend sweep over Ohio State with five points including his first career hat trick.

The Big Ten Conference announced the accolade on Tuesday morning as Boyd has now picked up three league weekly honors this season while the national honor marks Boyd's first career honor.

The Hopkins, Minn., native tallied the game-winning goal in Friday’s 4-2 win over the Buckeyes before breaking out for a career-high four points and three goals in Saturday’s 6-2 win at Mariucci Arena.

The senior has tallied 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) this season including 20 (10 goals, 10 assists) over the last 14 games after missing the entire month of November with an injury. The Washington Capitals prospect has tallied a point in 12 of 14 games since returning to the lineup.

Boyd’s 13 goals this season lead the Gophers and are a career-high for the senior while his 10 goals in conference play lead all Big Ten skaters. The forward also leads the Big Ten in game-winning goals with six (fourth nationally) and power-play goals with seven (tied fourth nationally).

Boyd also leads the NCAA in shooting percentage at .325 – the senior scored on all three of his shots in Saturday’s game.

Michigan State’s Zach Nagelvoort earned the Big Ten Second Star of the Week with PJ Musico of Penn State picking up Big Ten Third Star honors.

Minnesota returns to Big Ten action this weekend with a two-game series against Michigan at Mariucci Arena.
