EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Carrying a three-game winning streak into their first of two games versus the Eau Claire Express (11-10, 36-21), the Honkers (10-12,17-40) had a quality start from David Worrell, but their offense, in what is becoming a trend, was unable to produce, as they lose 5-2 and became the second team to 40 losses in the Northwoods League.

The Honkers as they have several times throughout the past couple weeks, were able to get an early lead. In the second inning, the Honkers got two runners on and newcomer Josh Hauser was able to put the Honkers on the board with an RBI single making it 1-0.

After four shutout innings, David Worrell got touched up in the fifth, as he gave up three runs to surrender the lead. Worrell allowed Sam Hurt and Ripken Reyes to reach first on singles, then a wild pitch later, Hurt was on third and Reyes was on second. Hurt was quickly driven in by Cody Bohanek on a sacrifice fly and Reyes came in right after on Mickey McDonald's RBI single.

Following McDonald's RBI single, Daulton Varsho came up and drove in McDonalds as he was caught in a rundown between second and first that allowed McDonald to score to make it 3-1.

In the seventh the Honkers cut the score down to 3-2 on Kyle Kasser's RBI single to drive in Brett Harrison, but in the bottom half of the inning, Brett Herber in his second inning of work allowed two more to make the game 5-3. The runs were scored thanks to first hitter of the inning Sam Hurt reaching first on a single then advancing to second on an error later scored on Mickey McDonald's RBI single. Following McDonald's single, Daulton Varsho drove in Reyes to make the score 5-2.

David Worrell (1-4) was given the loss while Jameson Lavery (1-1) got the win and Dylan Smith (S, 4) got the save.

The Honkers are back at home Sunday afternoon with a 12:05 game versus Eau Claire at Mayo Field.
