Minnesota Man Admits to Fleeing Police and Causing Fatal Crash
Maplewood, MN (MinnesotaNow) - A plea agreement has been reached with a Minnesota man who caused another man’s death while fleeing from police.
The criminal case stems from a deadly crash that occurred on the evening of December 13, 2024, in the St. Paul suburb of Maplewood. Court documents say the chase began after law enforcement officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in Roseville and the driver sped away.
Other Driver Killed
According to the criminal complaint, that led to a police pursuit, during which Roseville police unsuccessfully attempted a so-called PIT maneuver before the chase continued through Little Canada and into Maplewood. The court document describes how a deputy was approximately half a mile behind the fleeing SUV when it smashed into a car at an intersection.
The driver of the car suffered severe injuries and died after he was transported to the hospital. The driver of the SUV was identified as 38-year-old Nicholas John Price of Roseville. The criminal complaint says he suffered a broken leg in the crash and was also transported to the hospital.
Price was charged with criminal vehicular homicide and felony fleeing police resulting in death.

The criminal complaint says Price later gave a statement to law enforcement and indicated he was speeding between 80 and 90 mph just before the deadly crash occurred. He also told investigators he had gone to a bar following a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend, but claimed he did not drink. Price did tell investigators he had smoked marijuana the day before the crash.
The court document says Price had three prior felony convictions and was facing felony theft, felony stalking, felony assault, and three counts of motor vehicle theft at the time of his arrest.
Plea Deal
He entered a guilty plea today to the felony fleeing police charge in exchange for the dismissal of the criminal vehicular homicide charge.
Price is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
