The firing comes after a review of the allegations from a third-party law firm. The Austin Public Schools Board held a meeting regarding the personnel decision Wednesday night.
A statement released by an APS spokesman Thursday said the board made the unanimous decision to terminate former Organizational Development and Administrative Services Executive Director John Alberts. “The school board has a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment. The school board is firmly committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for our staff,” Chairperson Kathy Green stated.
APS Superintendent Dr. Joey Page also issued a statement regarding the firing:
Austin Public Schools is taking proactive steps to prevent harassment in the workplace. The school district has engaged the services of a consultant with extensive expertise in workplace harassment prevention. The consultant will provide a comprehensive training program with a focus on fostering a culture of respect.
