Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Charges stemming from a drug bust in Rochester last year have been dismissed.

On Probation For Earlier Conviction

The case involves a Rochester man who was sentenced to probation for a felony drug conviction in Goodhue County involving 25 grams of fentanyl. According to Olmsted County Court records, Rochester police executed a search warrant at the home of 31-year-old Antwoine Charles Williams Jr. last December in connection with an investigation into suspected drug sales.

Fentanyl Seized During Search of Home

The criminal complaint says the search of his home led to the discovery of more than 57 grams of suspected metfentanyl, a digital scale with a white residue on it, and multiple plastic baggies. The court document says Williams was also searched, and police seized another 4.4 grams of fentanyl and $1,000 in cash.

Insufficient Evidence

Williams was charged with one count each of first-degree drug sales and possession. A court filing entered last week indicates the Olmsted County Attorney's Office has now dismissed the charges. The filing states the reason for the dismissal is insufficient evidence.

Olmsted County Attorney Michael Walters says the decision to dismiss the charges came after his office received the results of testing of the suspected fentanyl conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He says it came back negative for the presence of controlled substances.

He noted that the Olmsted County Attorney's Office is still prosecuting Williams for possession of just under 4 grams of fentanyl that was discovered during a search of his vehicle.
