Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Illinois man convicted of bringing a loaded handgun into Apache Mall and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend was sentenced Monday to three years in prison.

22-year-old Jalen Davis was found guilty of felony counts of terroristic threats and stalking during a trial that was held in February. According to the criminal complaint, his ex-girlfriend told Rochester police that Davis had sent her text messages threatening to shoot her and her family. He also communicated his intention to travel to Minnesota from Illinois in the days leading up to his arrest. The woman also told investigators Davis had displayed a gun while they were video chatting.

The court document says Rochester police responded to Apache Mall last November 14 after receiving a report that Davis was inside the shopping complex looking for the ex-girlfriend. He was found sitting on a bench with a ski mask over his face and a glove on his right hand.

The officers indicated he was so immersed in his phone that they were able to sneak up on him to make the arrest. He was found in possession of a loaded 9 mm handgun with an extended magazine that held 24 rounds of ammunition. The charges stated that three additional ammunition magazines and more than 50 bullets were discovered during a search of his backpack.

Davis was given credit for the 239 days he has spent in jail.
