Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An apprehension effort led by federal authorities in Rochester led to a protest and the obstruction of the arrest.

Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says police detectives were assisting the U.S. Marshal’s Service with the apprehension and arrest on Monday morning.

The target was a man who was wanted in an Iowa criminal sexual conduct case involving a juvenile victim, police say.

Authorities Arresting Man in Iowa Sex Assault Case Met by Protestors Believing it to be ICE Activity

Grayson says the arrest occurred in the 1500 block of 3 Ave. NE. 

While law enforcement was at the scene, numerous people arrived to protest and obstruct the arrest, believing it was Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Activity, according to the police report. 

Grayson said the wanted man was taken into custody and brought to the Olmsted County Jail. 

The police report indicates 15 people were protesting at the scene. None were arrested. 

Police did not release the name of the wanted man.
