Rochester Man Convicted of Pointing Handgun at Neighbor
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been convicted of second-degree assault for pointing a gun at a neighbor.
66-year-old Gerald Senart has entered an Alford plea to the charge, which means he doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him of the crime. He was accused of pointing a handgun at a neighbor while they were engaged in a verbal dispute involving her children.
The criminal complaint says Rochester police were sent to the 5400 block of Weatherstone Circle Northwest on April 1 last year due to a report of a dispute between neighbors. The officers were met by a woman who provided them with a video of the confrontation. She told the officers that her children had been playing outside and they told her they had been involved in a confrontation with Senart.
She indicated she responded by going to Senart's home and knocking on the front door so she could speak with them. The woman alleged that Senart responded by brandishing a handgun, racking the weapon, and pointing it at her, causing her to fear for her life. According to the court records, the officers then spoke with Senart, who admitted having a handgun in his possession during his interaction with the woman, but he denied pointing the weapon at her.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 20.
