With school ending and summer vacations beginning around northern Illinois, you can expect some kids will be out making bad decisions.

That's exactly what happened this past weekend in Rockford with several youths being arrested.

2 Teen Girls Found With Liquor and Handgun

Rockford Police officers patrolled South Alpine Road just after midnight on Saturday morning (6/8) when a suspicious vehicle was seen in the Auto Zone parking lot at 201 S. Alpine.

According to a Rockford PD press release, two juvenile females occupied the vehicle. After an investigation and search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded handgun with a laser light and open liquor.

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has authorized the following charges:

  • 17-year-old Female, Rockford, charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Illegal Possession/Transportation of Alcohol. She is lodged in juvenile detention.
  • 16-year-old Female, Rockford, charged with Illegal Possession/Transportation of Alcohol. She is lodged in juvenile detention. She was released to a parent/guardian.

2 Teen Boys Charged After Discarded Gun Found

Rockford Police were in the 200 block of Highland Avenue around 11:20 am on Saturday (6/8) when officers "located and recovered a discarded handgun," but at the time it was found, they did not have any suspects.

Just a short time later, Rockford PD officers returned to the area on Highland Avenue after additional reports of suspicious activity, and when they arrived "multiple subjects fled," according to the report.

Two juveniles were taken into custody and the following charges were authorized by the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office:

  • 16-year-old Male, Rockford, charged with Obstructing, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
  • 15-year-old Male, Rockford, charged with Obstructing.

The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
